Is Liver Disease Hereditary?

Liver disease can have both genetic & environmental factors, but not all liver diseases are hereditary. 

Some liver diseases are caused by infections, exposure to toxins, alcohol abuse, or other factors that are not related to genetics.

However, some liver diseases are caused by genetic mutations or inherited conditions that can increase the risk of developing liver disease.

This is a condition where the body stores too much iron in the liver & other organs. 

  Hemochromatosis:

It is caused by a genetic mutation that can be inherited from one or both parents.

  Hemochromatosis:

This is a rare genetic disorder that causes copper to accumulate in the liver & other organs. 

Wilson's disease: 

It is caused by a mutation in a gene called ATP7B, which is inherited from both parents.

Wilson's disease: 

This is a genetic condition that can cause liver disease & lung disease. It is caused by a mutation in the SERPINA1 gene, which is inherited from one or both parents. 

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency:

 This is a rare genetic disorder that causes cysts to form in the liver. It is caused by mutations in the PKD1 or PKD2 genes, which can be inherited from one or both parents.
