Experiments to do at home for fun

Fill a bottle with water, add some food coloring & vegetable oil, then drop in an Alka-Seltzer tablet & watch the bubbling action.

Make A Lava Lamp :

Dissolve a lot of salt or sugar in hot water, then let the solution cool & evaporate slowly. As the water evaporates, crystals will start to form.

Grow crystals:

Mix together glue & borax solution to make a stretchy, gooey slime. To make it colorful you can add food coloring.

Make slime:

Put some baking soda in a balloon, then add vinegar to a bottle. Quickly stretch the balloon over the bottle, so the baking soda falls into the vinegar. The reaction will create carbon dioxide gas & inflate the balloon.

Inflate a balloon with vinegar & baking soda:

Wrap a nail with copper wire & connect it to a battery. When you touch the ends of the wire to the battery, the nail will become magnetic.

Make a simple electromagnet:

Rub a balloon on your hair or a wool sweater to build up a static charge, then hold it near small bits of paper or other light objects to see them attracted to the balloon.

Experiment with static electricity:

Mix baking soda & vinegar in a cup, then quickly pour it into a volcano made of playdough or modeling clay. The reaction will create a foam that looks like lava.
