9 ways to practice self-love for your mental health

1. Take a break.

This is easier to say than to do for many of us. Whether it's work/life balance, family drama, school stress, or something else, you're probably too busy to even think about taking a break.

2. Relax.

Taking a break is a good start, but if you really care about your mental health, you should learn how to deal with stress and relax.

3. Try a de-stressing exercise.

Experts agree that exercise is one of the best ways to improve your mental health. It may be the last thing you want to do when you're feeling too stressed, but it's one of the best things you can do for yourself.

4. Get outside.

Even if yoga isn't your thing, you should still work out. Grab your shoes and head outside for a breath of fresh air in the great outdoors. Some ways, working out outside is even better than going to the gym.

5. Feed your brain.

Nutrition is important for your mental health and your mood.  This inflammation causes a lot of problems, like high blood sugar, stomach pain, and weight gain, which can make you feel awful.

6. Embrace your inner child.

Adults can also use coloring books. Art has been shown to relieve stress and improve mood, but not everyone is an artist.

7. Put pen to paper.

Research shows that writing can help you identify and deal with stressors in your life, find emotional healing, lower your stress levels, and improve your ability to solve problems.

8. Go to bed.

If you're like most Americans, you could use a good night's sleep. One in three adults regularly doesn't get the 7 hours of sleep that the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends. When you don't get enough or good sleep, both your physical and mental health suffer.
